My wife and I are off to the Commodore. Will recap the event on Monday.

A nice Fall type day. Sunny and near 70. Trees are starting to change into thier Fall colors. I`m not sure whether I like that or not. Fall is okay but it means Winter can`t be far behind. I always dread the onset of Winter. The fighting with snow and sleet and slipping and sliding all over the place. It`s not as bad as when I had 60 miles a day to travel. Now I have 1/2 mile to work. Of course, after that, I have 12 miles of mail route to cover. Anyway, the older I get, the more I dislike Winter. I guess that`s universal.
My wife and I are going away for the weekend. We are travelling to Stowe,VT to stay at the Commodore Inn. It`s a weekend for married couples to improve thier relationship. I think we both need the time away from the kids and the hum drum of everyday life. We hope to just relax and learn something from the presentations. We are leaving tomorrow afternoon so I will probably post something in the morning. Check out my newest link for Chains Of Daisies.

Rainy and cooler today. I actually got quite damp and chilly. Then the wind came up. Out of the North where it is much chillier. I sure was glad to get back to the office.
We had a nice little ceremony at 9:00am this morning. There was a fire truck,an ambulance,a police cruiser, and we had our 2 postal vehicles parked in front. A local minister gave a prayer and we observed a moment of silence and then a man played TAPS on his bugle. It was quite moving.I thought about it alot today as I delivered the mail. It`s really sad that all those lives where lost. It makes me appreciate life all the more.

Unlike Paul the Postman at Isabella`s Teddy, I don`t report to work until 7:30AM. Of course, that means I work until 4:00PM. The mail doesn`t get to our office until 6:30 or so. Clerks then sort it and we have mail ready to case at 7:30. We are usually out on the street by 9:30-10:00 depending on volume. We are a smaller office so we don`t have all the bull that the larger offices put up with. Some carriers really have it tough. Supervisors breathing down thier necks and things like that. That`s why I came to a small office. I could never put up with someone watching my every move. More later as I am off to work.
Whew, another hot one today. Yesterday was 98 and today was over 90 again. Quite unusual for the middle of September. Tomorrow is supposed to be about 30 degrees cooler. Looking forward to that.
Our Postmaster is putting together a little ceremony tomorrow to remember the tragedy that struck a year ago. He has arranged for a fire truck, a rescue vehicle and a police car to be parked in front of the Post Office. We will also park our delivery vehicles in front until we hit the street. At around 8:45-9:00 we will go out front and observe a moment of silence. I am proud of our boss as he has done this in just a couple of days because no-one else in town had planned anything. I hope it helps people remember how fragile life is and how things can change in a heart beat. I know that I was very concerned when the attack on the US occured. Not for myself but for all the people directly involved. I spent most of that day thinking to myself that it was a bad dream and I would wake up and it didn`t happen. Let`s all pray for the survivors and hope that someday they can cope with thier losses.
