What a difference a day makes. Yesterday it barely got above zero degrees and today it`s above 25. It seems like Spring out there. We have been suffering through a tough month. The temperatures have been hovering around zero or below. Terribly cold. Hard to stay warm. Managed to survive by dressing in layers. Even used a few of those hand warmer things. You know, the little packages that you open and there is some sort of chemical reaction that creates heat. They work pretty well. Anyway, hope we can stay out of the deep freeze for a while.
The local fire department has a yearly fund raiser where they sell 200 tickets at $100.00 each and they give away over 40 prizes valued at at least $100.00. The tickets include the drawing and a dinner dance. It was held last Saturday evening at the Eagles Club in Vergennes(about 10 miles from Bristol). My wife and I have two tickets. They also do a fifty/fifty where you buy tickets for $1.00 each and half goes to the charity and half to the winner. To make a long story short, I won the 50/50 and got $688.00. We also won a consolation prize of $100.00. So we did pretty well. Also had a good dinner. Didn`t stay long for the dance as they allow smoking after the prize drawing. I don`t mind people smoking, but in a place that`s kind of closed in, it isn`t good. Lots of other people left also. My brother and his wife where there(they won a recliner) but left immediately after the drawing because of the smoking. Maybe next year they won`t allow smoking at all. I know that if I get the chance, I will mention it to the firemen on the committee.
